Real Wedding; Ashley and Kyle @ Mandalay House
About You Two;
Now, How did you two meet?
We met through two of our best friends who set us up on the sly. We both were told we were going to a gig in Newtown but had no idea it was a ruse.
Who popped the Question and how did it happen?
Kyle popped the question. We had planned to spend Christmas in Adelaide with family. As It was during Covid another border lockdown was about to happen so it was a mad dash to the South Australian border at 3am. He proposed in the Barossa Valley in a vineyard at our bougie hotel.
Why did you choose your venue and how was the venue choosing process?
We always knew we wanted to get married on my mum’s property in Berry. Not only was it a massive cost saver but it was where my mum was married and its a gorgeous location.
Quick Fire Questions;
How many wedding guests did you have?
110ish
Sit down of Cocktail Style?
Extremely casual cocktail style
What month?
October
Planning The Wedding;
Was planning the wedding stressful or did you enjoy the journey?
I tend to be over organised and overprepared so I started early enough and booked things early enough so it wasn’t too stressful at all. The only stressful time was when our bar, grazing table, and coffee van (all one vendor) had to cancel 5 months out. I found three new vendors within a week thank god.
How involved were you both in the wedding planning, did one of you take more of the lead on certain aspects than others or were you both equally involved?
I was the main planner/organiser but Kyle definitely helped out a lot when needed.
What was the top couple of non-negotiables or important must-have’s at the wedding for you both?
Our must-haves/non-negotiables was the photographer, the food, the drinks, and the music.
Tell us about your dress and that dress-finding process?
I found my dress a year and a half out. I had seen it online and it was the last in stock as it was being discontinued it was more than half off… although it was 4 times too big, nothing that a quality seamstress couldn’t fix!
What sort of theme, vibe or style did you go for?
We wanted a party festival vibe. We didn’t want it to be a traditional wedding, just a massive party with good food, plenty of drinks and killer music.
On the Day;
How did you both feel wedding morning?
We are both pretty chill people so it didn’t feel too stressful our nervous. We just wanted to see each other at the end of that aisle.
What was the best part or moment of your day?
We really can’t pick a moment as it was just incredible.
Anything you would change about your wedding or anything that didn’t go to plan?
The only thing would be the weather but we think the rain added to the atmosphere. What was Woodstock without the rain?
Are there any rituals, sentiments or traditions you incorporated into the day?
I had a piece of my aunty’s jewellery attached to my bouquet and Kyle had his godfather’s ring on a necklace around his neck. We wanted them to be there with us somehow. I also bought Kyle The Simpsons wedding pig cufflink pins to wear as that is a big part of our relationship.
After the Wedding;
Describe newlywed life in a couple of words?
Honestly no different. We have always lived together so there isn’t much changed.
Best investment or money well spent on the wedding that you made?
I think the best investment would be the Wedding coordinators. We would have crumbled without you guys. You made our day magical!
Budget-over, under or what you estimated?
We didn’t really have a budget. We didn’t want to limit ourselves so we could enjoy the day fully.
