Real Wedding; Lucy and Nadia @ Seacliff House
About You Two;
Now, How did you two meet?
We met at a friends faux wedding performance for the Italian Festival in Darlinghurst, Lucy was dressed in yellow lycra and had a drawn on mono brow and moustache, Nadia couldn’t resist!
Who popped the Question and how did it happen?
Nadia asked me in Italy, she had been planning it for a while and whilst in Venice we went out to a very sought after restaurant, I invited a friend we met at the hotel, an American called Brian, not thinking he would come, he turned up ordered all the desserts and Nadia had to sideline the ‘asking’ surprise until the next morning at buffet breakfast (one of our favourite things) and then after she asked me, we did all the cheesy things you do in Venice, got a singing gondola ride, walked the streets in love and wowing at the diamond on my finger… as Nadia is a jeweller she had herself a ring too on the bed!
Why did you choose your venue and how was the venue choosing process?
We chose Seacliff house, as we both love ocean we wanted a destination wedding where guests could easily find accommodation, not too far out of Sydney, and where we could DIY have control, Seacliff House was the 3rd place we looked at and we knew straight away that this was for us!
Quick Fire Questions;
How many wedding guests did you have?
120 guests
Sit down of Cocktail Style?
Sit down grazing plates
What month?
March 2022
Planning The Wedding;
Was planning the wedding stressful or did you enjoy the journey?
We enjoyed the process, it went like this: venue, then food and alcohol, then entertainment and friends to do things, it all fell into place perfectly.
How involved were you both in the wedding planning, did one of you take more of the lead on certain aspects than others or were you both equally involved?
Nadia took more control of food and alcohol, wedding planners, like yourself, the choice of plates, cutlery that kind of thing, I took more control of entertainment, celebrant, PA that kind of thing. We worked to our strengths.
What was the top couple of non-negotiables or important must-have’s at the wedding for you both?
Great food and great alcohol, and definitely live music for the ceremony, they were our must haves!
Tell us about your dress and that dress-finding process?
Dresses were tricky, we had ideas but we basically went lets get the material first, then work on shapes. We knew from the outset there would be no white on us, colour or gold, silver shiny vibes. Once we chose the material we loved, then we worked with our friend to design, shape a dress that worked with the material and our different body shapes.
What sort of theme, vibe or style did you go for?
Our theme was ‘express yourself’ from the outset i was determined not to set a ‘you must wear’ attitude, we have colourful friends, we wanted everyone to feel sexy in their favourite outfit, not stuffy and awkward.
On the Day;
How did you both feel wedding morning?
Nervous, excited, pretty relaxed…
What was the best part or moment of your day?
So many; first the moment we walked out and saw and heard our friend singing the song and saw all our guests screaming, crying, laughing with a drink in their hand, that set the tone for the day.
Anything you would change about your wedding or anything that didn’t go to plan?
Probably after the ceremony make more of an effort to not leave each others side. Not read out telegram, so boring!
Are there any rituals, sentiments or traditions you incorporated into the day?
Yes; Nadia is jewish so we got married under the chuppah and we broke the glass at the end of the ceremony, to honour her jewish heritage but also they are great traditions that suited the celebration and style of the day.
After the Wedding;
Describe newlywed life in a couple of words?
It all goes so fast, next thing you know you are back to ’normal’ life. Nadia had a ‘come down’ after all the celebrations… if we didn’t have small kids I would have loved to to on a honeymoon to keep riding the wave.. but you know… life is great, we love to call each other ‘wife’ and to know this person chose you is pretty amazing.
Best investment or money well spent on the wedding that you made?
Food!!! everyone loved it, entertainment, venue, wed event, all of it, no regrets!!!!
Budget-over, under or what you estimated?
Over… by around 10K i think….
